FAQS: MacLeods', Lakewood and Riverhaven Communities
- Must I be retired to reside at MacLeods', Lakewood or Riverhaven?
No, you do not have to be retired but all residents have to be 55 years of age and older to reside in their community. There are many individuals that work part/full time.
- Can I Bring My pet?
Yes, house pets that weigh less than 40 pounds are allowed but can not be of an aggressive breed. A cat must be indoors at all times. (See Rule and regulations for details)
- What about Golf, Swimming and Recreation?
There are six public 18 hole golf courses within 10 minutes of the community. There is one local par three course. Most have senior discounts. Boating and Beaches is by the Peconic Bay, the Long Island Sound and Ocean.
- Are They Near Supermarkets And Stores?
Yes, we have King Kullen, Waldbaum’s and a brand new Stop and Shop.
- What are MacLeods', Lakewood and Riverhaven Recreation Club?
We have a 2 associations within these communities, these are organized by the residents within our community. These different associations organize Parties, events or activities at their recreation center.
- If I have an emergency after hours, can I get a hold of anyone?
There is a 24 hour emergency service that responds to park emergencies.
- What is considered a park emergency?
A park emergency is an emergency that pertains to your cesspool, a water main, or any park infrastructre or building. Anything related to your home is your responsibility and you must contact a local vendor. If you have a fire, police or EMT emergency you must contact the appropriate emergency service.
- May Grandchildren, Relatives or Friends Visit?
Yes, at any time. They may stay for a period of up to 3 weeks total a year.
- Is there Storage for My Recreational Vehicle or Boat?
Yes there is a storage area for residents, there is a monthly fee based on size.
- Do I have to pay Real Estate Taxes?
Yes, you have to pay real estate taxes based on the assessed value of your home. if you have Basic Star or Enhanced Star it will be included with your rent. If you have a Veteran’s Exemption or Senior Exemption you will receive your own tax bill.
- Is Cable television and Satellite available?
Yes, Riverhead Cablevision services the village. Small satellite receivers are permitted they must be attached to the home.
- Is Public Transportation Available?
Yes, the County of Suffolk operates buses that will come into front main entrance. The town also operates a dial a ride service.
- May I rent or Sublet My Home?
Yes, subletting is allowed. You must obtain a subtenant agreement from the office and your subtenant(s) must also be 55 years of age or above and pass the community application process.
- Are there Medical Facilities Nearby?
Yes, Peconic Bay Medical Center is on Route 58 in Riverhead. There is a new addition to the hospital for better services.
- Are there monthly charges for utilities?
Yes, each individual home is metered for electric, gas (if used) and heating oil.
- What about Water, Sewage, and Trash Removal?
Water is unlimited, sewer is management’s responsibility, trash removal is on Thursday, (garbage, recyclables, yard debris). All is included in your monthly site rent.
